Córtex has several fundamental roles in our superior cognitive functions, such as conscience, perception, attention, motivation, memory and problem solving. In here, in these functions, lies the origin of this wine.

Everything started in 2017, when in the bottlings by gravity of Quinta da Carolina 2015, the bottom parts of the tank were a bit cloudier, without clarity and precision. Due to this we decided to save that part and put it back in a barrel, without any plan, just to see how it developed.

Some years later, with already 5 wines in barrel – 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020 – we decided to rack the wines and blend them in a stainless steel tank, with the goal of making a non-vintage Quinta da Carolina: our memories since 2015, a multi vintage expression of the same “terroir”.

After a year in stainless steel, for the wines of the different years to blend properly, we bottled Cortex I – a lighter wine than the traditional Quinta da Carolina, fun to drink but with some antagonism – primary fruit along with a tertiary character, complex but also easy drinking, a wine puzzle.
